          Welcome! I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my services and provide you with a clear idea of what you can expect when working with a writing coach and/or editor. My name is Anna, and my business is called YouMePhD.com. I offer writing, editing, coaching, research, and data services to support academics, businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and authors. You can rely on me to provide full writing cycle support tailored to your unique writing, editing, and research needs.

What I do here …

          Having been in business since 2007, I have built a strong core of expertise focused on helping individuals more clearly communicate using the written word. Whenever possible, I emphasize the importance of close working relationships and supportive partnerships. To that end, I do my best to make sure your editing experience is tailored to your unique circumstances and needs. Regardless of whether you need a cheerleader to offer moral support, a drill sergeant to help drive your timeline completion, or an intellectual Sherpa to help you overcome what seem like insurmountable obstacles, I’m here for you. Your success is my primary goal.  

Who I am…

          My specialty is academic editing. With a solid foundation in editing and coaching at all levels of academia, for the past 12 years, my primary focus has been on the PhD process. From initial literature searches and topic selection/approval to APA referencing and final formatting, my expertise with the dissertation process has helped students in a wide range of disciplines graduate faster and with significantly reduced stress.

 

Some of what I do…

          Coaching: This service is well suited for students who are feeling stuck or uncertain about how to make progress with their project. Coaching includes a review of materials to help students conceptualize and plan their projects (i.e., outlining, research design, etc.). Coaching also assists students seeking to resolve content issues and design flaws that have resulted in the rejection of proposals or manuscripts. Coaching is useful when students wish to improve their academic writing skills or when they encounter a problem during a larger writing project. Help provided to resolve problems with missing or misaligned content, flawed research design, or organization issues falls under the category of coaching. Extensive revision for clarity and linearity may also fall under the category of my coaching services in certain circumstances. 

 

          Full Dissertation (All Chapters Written) Revision:  Fully completed theses whether completed but still at the committee stage or having been rejected at School Review (Bounced Theses) present special challenges since many parts of the thesis and its research are fixed.  As a result, this is a special type of academic editing and revision support provides support for doctoral candidates who have completed the thesis writing process but are having difficulty obtaining either school or mentor/committee approval due to persistent flaws in content, research design, logic, structure, or writing.  

Completed dissertations that have been rejected late in the approvals or school review process often require very specialized coaching and editing to revise and restructure the existing material to align with school requirements more closely. 

 

 

 Getting Started with the Editing Process

 

          Based on experience, we know that most clients coming through our door for the first time have never worked with an editor before. Many of you also find the writing process frustrating or intimidating. For this reason, we try very hard to make the editing process as friendly and stress free as possible. 

 

Initial Dissertation Review 

          The initial review costs $65 per chapter, or part chapter, of material submitted to us. Note we are not affiliated with any university or other institution and our reviews are completely independent. The work review will result in a brief written report capturing the issues that we identify in your work. Past clients have told us that this brief review is often more detailed than input they have received previously and it is geared to getting you through the PhD thesis process as quickly and efficiently as possible.  At this juncture, in our opinion, we will have an initial grasp of where your thesis is and what issues you face.  If you are comfortable with our input, you may then move on to the telephone follow up. If you are not comfortable with the review, however, we strongly recommend that you do not proceed further until any such issues are specifically discussed with us.

 

Phone Follow up

          Alignment with your editor is vital.  The best editor in the world is not right for you if they do not share your vision or are not in alignment with how you think or what you wish to accomplish.  Thus, to ensure alignment for potential new clients we not only perform a work review but also schedule a follow up phone call to go over the review findings.

 

Follow up calls are normally scheduled to last up to one hour. This call is billed at a standard rate. During this call an initial discussion of an action plan may take place.
